Dr Tom Coomans

Dr Tom Coomans is a local, born and raised in Townsville. He chose to study in his community, obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at James Cook University with an Academic Medal. He has always enjoyed the beautiful North Queensland weather and nature, and missed this sorely during his years abroad, travelling and completing a Bachelor of Science in Medicine.

Dr Tom has worked for several years in the Townsville University Hospital, as well as in Ingham Hospital, Collinsville Health Service and Proserpine Hospital. He was then drawn to General Practice. He specialised and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Areas of special interest include family medicine, chronic disease, oncology and palliative care.

He also teaches medical students as an educator at the JCU Medical School. When he is not working you can often find him spending time at the beach with his dog, fishing, going to the gym or enjoying trivia with friends.
